Reading Books – Ugh!

I know many many people who love to read books. They read one, two or even three books a week. Sitting by the fire, glass of wine (or milk) and a good book. They live for it.

I also know lots of people who never read a book. They dread the day someone asks them what book they are reading at the moment. Their attention span isn't into book reading. They can't stand the weight of the book, even a pocket book.

Now this isn't about not being able to read, or not wanting the joy of learning from a book. This is about having no interest in sitting by the fire, glass of beer in hand, reading Louis L'Amour. After all, you can go see the hundreds of movies that were created from his books.

Back to the dread of being asked what book you are currently reading. I have two answers for that question. First, I always keep a book on my bedside table (currently it's Bob Greene's Guide To Good Eating). Now if asked, I can say that the book on my bedside table is the "Guide To Good Eating" by Bob Greene.

By the way, I am actually reading the book in chunks as I am trying to stay healthy, and eating is one of the ways one can do that.

The other answer is simply this. "Thanks for asking, but I rarely read books, unless you count instruction books about Wordpress Plugins and such as books." I do read a lot, probably more pages and words than most books. I read newspapers and magazines. I can't get enough of them. I an an eclectic, so I read about all kinds of things from people to photography, model trains and deep sea fishing. I do read the odd recipe so I can learn how to boil a great 3-minute egg.

I like to be able to start and finish within a quarter hour. I don't need anything special to drink, a good cup of coffee will do nicely, and I never read by the fire.

In fact, I've removed the fireplace in my home. Gives me abother wall for a sofa for guests.

I suspect that I am not alone in this lack of book reading. I certainly don't begrudge those that do read books, it's just not my thing.

Now, there are books that I gobble up. But I don't call them sitting by the fire books. I look for books like Advanced Web Metrics with Google Analytics
and for reading e-books, Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6" Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation).
